The Village Motors Dolphins will welcome back 2018 Premiership Captain Cameron Cullen for season 2019. The rugged half back is a stalwart of the Intrust Super Cup competition, having played at Redcliffe, Mackay and Burleigh before returning to Redcliffe.
Cullen came back for his second stint with the Dolphins at the end of 2017 following his time with the Manly Sea Eagles where he made his NRL debut. With his options open, Cullen was drawn to the Peninsula lifestyle and having family close by. According to Coach Adam Mogg, the timing was perfect.
“The Club’s stocks in the halves had taken a beating with Tyson Gamble, Benji Marshall (Wests Tigers) and Christian Hazard (Newcastle Knights) signing NRL deals. December rolled around and we still didn’t have a First Grade half back. We were trying and had actually signed a couple of replacements but they had subsequently signed NRL or Super League contracts so we let them go.”
Mogg said the Club was patient in its pursuit of a half back and when Cullen contacted the Club looking for an opportunity things fell into place from there. “Fell into place is probably an understatement as Cullo’s experience and playing style really suits the Dolphins. He assumed the Captaincy role and provided stability in the halves week in week out. We’re thrilled to have him back next season and know the fans who come to support us at Dolphin Stadium will be too.”
