Dolphins claim Rivalry Round victory for Fuller’s 100th
An inspired Trai Fuller helped guide Redcliffe to a stunning Rivalry Round victory on Sunday, with the Dolphins triumphing 36-16 over the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.
In his 100th Hostplus Cup match, Fuller nabbed two tries and set up a third as he celebrated his milestone game back in the No.1 jersey.
Fuller – who returned from the NRL squad this week – was one of many standouts in a strong showing at BMD Kougari Oval, with Redcliffe dominant against their bayside foes from the opening minutes.
Running towards the infamous Chook Pen for the opening half, the Dolphins were clearly in a mood to make quite a statement against Wynnum Manly and their fans.
Though their first points came through a Joshua James penalty goal in the 5th minute, they went on a try-scoring spree throughout the first 40, running in four tries to one.
Backrower Sam Elliott was the first to cross the line in the 13th minute, running off a smart play from hooker Brent Woolf, before the No.9 then claimed the chocolates for himself, darting from dummy-half to barrel past three defenders five minutes later.
The Dolphins forwards were particularly impressive in the opening quarter of the match, setting the platform for the backs and playmakers to find their opportunities.
Karl Oloapu was one to capitalise, with the five-eighth the next to score, slipping through four defenders.
Fuller then went on to score either side of halftime, first backing up a crafty Jordan Plath and then off an Oloapu kick.
While the Dolphins slightly took their foot off the pedal in attack in the second half, their final try came five minutes out from fulltime, with Fuller sending Kyle Coghill over the line.
It was the most impressive performance of the Dolphins’ start to 2026, with the team improving each week.
Fuller – in his first Cup game of the year – said it was the icing on the cake to get the win in an important game for himself.
“It was good to get back,” he told Qplus.tv.
“The boys put on a show for my 100th and I’m very proud of them… I’m just happy to get the win.”
The Redcliffe Dolphins will be back at home in Round 4, taking on the PNG Hunters at Kayo Stadium.
