Dolphins Staff Donate Tips To Flood Disaster

The Village Motors Dolphins will head to Townsville for Round 6 of the Intrust Super Cup this weekend and will be taking more than the usual game day kit with them. The Team will also have a cheque ready to donate funds to the Townsville SES and Queensland Country Women’s Association, organisations instrumental in recovery efforts following February’s flood disaster in the region.

The Donation will be made on behalf of the staff of the Redcliffe Leagues Club who have pooled their tips. “Our staff always donate their tips to a worthy cause, and when we got news of the flood disaster that hit Townsville earlier in the year we knew we wanted to help out,” Dolphins CEO Tony Murphy said. “The game of rugby league is about going a mile for your mate on and off the field and we hope that by making this donation, we’ll be helping out our fellow Intrust Super Cup Club, the Townsville Blackhawks to support recovery efforts in their community,” he said.

The Blackhawks will also be presenting a cheque at the Round 6 match. “When the flood disaster hit I was contacted straight away by Tony Murphy to see how the Dolphins could help. When I mentioned the possibility of raising funds for the Townsville SES and QCWA when we played against each other in Round 6 Tony was keen to come on board,” CEO of the Townsville Blackhawks Justin Wilkins said.

The Round 6 Intrust Super Cup Match will be followed by a North Queensland Cowboys V Townsville Blackhawks Charity Match.

Former Dolphin and North Queensland Cowboy Mark Shipway will be lacing up his boots for the match. Mark will already be in Townsville as coach of the Dolphins Mal Meninga Cup team. Mark, a former Premiership Player for the Dolphins, made his professional debut with the Cowboys in 1997, playing a total of 91 games for the Club. “I am really looking forward to catching up with some former Cowboys team mates and the comradery that comes with that. Townsville was my home for many years so I’m really happy I can do something to support flood recovery in the area,” Mark said.
