Dolphins to take lessons from loss to Jets

An opening 40 minutes to forget has handed the Redcliffe Dolphins their first loss in over a month, but captain Sheldon Pitama says the lessons will help his team moving forward.

In Round 14 of the Hostplus Cup, the Dolphins went down 28-18 to the Ipswich Jets at Kayo Stadium, after the third-placed Jets piled on all of their 28 points in the opening stanza.

While LJ Nonu, Jude Saldanha and Pitama all hit back in the second half, the damage had already been done and it was too hard to take full control of the match.

Pitama said the first half just wasn’t “good enough”.

“It was pretty horrible… not a lot of fun in the first half,” he said.

“Too many errors, too many penalties. Contact wasn’t good enough, energy wasn’t good enough in the first half.

“Nothing was really good enough in the first half from us. In this competition, you can’t come out of the sheds like that.”

The Dolphins will be back at training as soon as Monday, with discipline no doubt a focus for them moving forward.

They will move into another Sunday match in Round 15 and Pitama said they will be determined to get back to their best against the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

“I’m sure we will take some individual accountability and team accountability come video review on Monday,” he said.

“The second half was a good indication of what we can do.

“We’ll have to get back on the horse… you have to turn up every week.”

The Dolphins will take on the Seagulls at home on Sunday June 28 from 2pm.
