A trio of Redcliffe Dolphins coaches will make moves as part of the restructure that will accompany the impending debut of the new NRL team.
The Dolphins NRL team is set to begin pre-season training next month in preparation to become the competition’s 17th club in March.
Under the new structure, senior Redcliffe Dolphins coaches Scott Murray and Ben Te’o will play important roles in transitioning players from the Queensland Rugby League competitions into the NRL team.
Meanwhile, former Broncos’ NRL player and Redcliffe Dolphins legend Mick Roberts will join the NRL Dolphins full-time as Academy Skills Coach.
Te’o and Murray will effectively swap teams with Te’o assuming the head coaching role for the Hostplus Cup and Murray returning to lead the Dolphins’ Hastings Deerings Colts team.
Importantly, both will move from part-time roles to become full-time coaches for the club as they use their experience to prepare the newest wave of players through the Dolphins’ system.
Murray will take a break from his full-time role leading Redcliffe State High’s successful rugby league program to focus on developing the club’s next generation of junior representative stars.
Te’o will concentrate on the advancement of Redcliffe Dolphins’ Hostplus Cup players, with Rhett Tronc joining the Dolphins to assist with the Hostplus Cup side.
Roberts, who has also been working as a teacher, will undertake a full-time position developing the skills of Dolphins’ Academy players.
Under the leadership of Academy Head Kurt Richards, he will assist players aged 15 to 19 with preparing for the graduation to NRL pathways.
Redcliffe Dolphins’ chief executive Grant Cleal congratulated all three coaches on their new positions.
“These three men played pivotal roles in the Redcliffe Dolphins reaching the grand finals in both the Hostplus Cup and Hastings Deerings Colts competitions this year,” said Cleal.
“They will now become important coaches in the pathways we are creating to build success for our new NRL system for the future.”
