The Redcliffe Dolphins provided a textbook example of offensive prowess in their 52-12 win over the Souths Logan Magpies on Sunday afternoon at the Dolphin Oval.
After only allowing two tries all game long, Dolphins coach Adam Mogg credited his squad’s ability to play as a cohesive unit for the win.
“I thought our execution was really good and I think everyone just did their job today,” Mogg said.
“To be able to score like that everyone has to do their job.”
Troy Giess and PNG international Thompson Teteh led the Dolphins with two tries each, while Tyson Gamble, Aaron Whitchurch and 2017 XXXX Queensland Residents representatives Christian Hazard, Jonus Pearson, Thomas Opacic also got themselves on the scoreboard. Joshua Beehag finished the match with eight out of nine attempted conversions.
The Magpies managed two tries, with forwards George Fai and Simione Fatafehi crossing the line for the visitors.
While the Dolphins did not have the ideal opening to the game and allowed the Magpies a quick try in the fourth minutes to Residents squad member Fai; Mogg was happy to see his team overcome their slow start.
“It was just good that our players got their game back on and went into halftime in front,” Mogg said.
“Just everyone is doing their job on defence and working hard for each other, and that reflection came off in our attack.”
This weekend sees the competition break for the Representative Round and Mogg will have a number of players in action for the both the Queensland Residents team and the PNG Kumuls.
When they return for Round 10, the Dolphins will face the Mackay Cutters who would love nothing better than to bring down the high flyers.
“They are a different team the Cutters, so we will have to prepare slightly different,” Coach Mogg said.
“They have some big forwards, they got a bit of speed out wide, and they have a really good kicking game.”
The Cutters will visit the Dolphin Oval Saturday, May 13 for a night matchup. Kickoff is a 7pm.
The Magpies will aim to end their two-game losing streak when they visit Jack Manski Oval to take on the Townsville Blackhawks.
