Redcliffe junior Timms to become Dolphin No.903

Drew Timms will become Dolphin No.903 on Sunday, as the young hooker makes his club debut against his former team, the Western Clydesdales.

The Redcliffe junior will achieve a lifelong goal in the final regular round of the 2026 season, donning the red and white nearly four years after he left the peninsula in search of his maiden Hostplus Cup jersey.

Timms, who started rugby league with the Narangba Rangers, played for Redcliffe from under 12s until he was 18, when he signed with the Clydesdales.

The 22-year-old played 36 games across two seasons for the Toowoomba-based club before joining Sunshine Coast Falcons in 2025 where he made another six Cup appearances.

But it was always in his plans to hopefully one day return to Redcliffe and that opportunity came this year under coach Dave Elliott.

“It’s always what I wanted to do,” he said.

“I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen but I really wanted to make sure I gave myself a crack at coming back.

“Playing all your juniors, coming through the systems, you meet so many good people, so many good coaches that give you everything they know for your journey coming up. It’s pretty special to play the top grade here.”

The Dolphins have already secured second place on the Hostplus Cup ladder, but are still chasing a strong win today ahead of finals next week.

They will take on the Clydesdales from 2pm at Kayo Stadium and for Timms, it’s not only a serendipitous moment to come up against his old team, but also a chance to prove himself once again at this level.

“It’s pretty funny,” he said.

“It’s a pretty full circle moment, especially being the last game. You couldn’t write it, really.

“I want to show what a Redcliffe player is and do the club proud, do my family proud, and all the players and coaches I’ve been with along the journey.”
